I try to pick up the trash on my street weekly from snow-gone to snow-fly.
Last summer I noticed that there must have been some other people on the
block picking up trash too - which is greatly appreciated.

In a week I usually get at least 1-2 30 gallon trash bags full on our street.

There is an adopt-a-block program in Minneapolis that will provide you
with yellow bags that you can leave by any trash container. The solid
waste collection pick these yellow bags up. I find the restrictions of
the program a little too much for me.

If just 2 people on every block in Minneapolis did this we would have a
much cleaner city. This doesn't address the cranial-rectally-impacted
individuals that Wizard was talking about. It does seem that an area with
lots of trash, car batteries and old tires attracts more trash, old tires
and batteries.

If you catch someone in the act of dumping on a vacant lot I think that
you can call that in. I am not sure if it will do any good but at least
you should feel better about it.

Also the stroll patrol in our neighborhood picks up trash. Occasionally
we get comments like "Is this part of your sentence for drunk driving or
something?". That just gives us a chance to tell why we are out there.

Uh... By the way... Use gloves - and wash your hands really really good
after picking up trash.
