I'm somewhat disturbed by many of the previous postings I read on this
thread. I don't think that passive aggressive behavior, or hostility, is a
civil response to the problem of trash and litter. If I see someone
littering, either I'll pick up after them or not, depending on what my mood
is. If I do pick up after them, I don't yell or get angry, I merely perform
the "mitzvah" of bettering the community, and I choose to not pass judgement
on the other person. My heart and nerves are in better shape for it. On a
footnote, I recently moved back here from New York, and I am very impressed
by how clean Minneapolis actually is. The City gives us these nice
industrial containers to hide our trash in, and while I do see the
occassional rat or cockroach, I find that I'm not in bed with them every
night. Let's relax, enjoy the weather, appreciate what we have, and not
turn some garbage into the symbolic microcosmos of our city.
