Clark asked for reasons why no Twins talk lately. I think people fall into 3
groups:

1. Don't care and never did.
2. Care and hate subsidy and don't need to say it again.
3. Care and love baseball but resigned that in this day and age - not to
mention this state and culture - a taxpayer-financed ballpark won't happen.
This group is split between folks who think subsidy should happen but won't,
and those who think subsidy shouldn't happen despite their love for
baseball.

Me - father of a four-year-old with an Eric Milton poster on his wall,
attendee of 8 Twins games last year in which I bought all my tickets - I'm
resigned that we can't possibly come up with enough dough to make baseball
work here.

I love the game, pretty much hate the subsidy (though not a nothing-no-way
guy), and have rationalized the coming loss by saying maybe we need to take
5-10 years off from major-league baseball while it is so screwed up. If they
fix the finances, it's one roadblock removed from a future stadium
discussion.

ANYWAY...perhaps to facilitate grieving, I'd like to revive a discussion the
list had some time ago. Assuming the Twins leave, and assuming some form of
minor-league ball comes to the suddenly open Twin Cities market (Northern
League ala the St. Paul Saints or Triple-A), where could we locate a stadium
or build a cozy, cheap minor-league park?

There are a couple of existing sites that have potential, much as the Saints
found Midway Stadium:

Parade Stadium
Siebert Field

A minimal investment in either would have some public spin-off benefits -
either a better top-end park for local players (Parade) or a better place to
watch the U (Siebert).

But I really want to identify parcels in Minneapolis where a) a stadium
would fit b) a stadium would be the best use and c) where there could be the
most spin-off benefits.

Any part of town is fine - in fact, the broader the geographic scope the
better. If you hate subsidy for any level of ballpark, just go with the
concept and pretend we'll find a sugar parent. The Dome, of course, is bad
enough when the players are good and simply not an option for minor-league
entertainment.

Thanks,
