Twins: I love baseball. I grew up watching day baseball at Wrigley Field
in Chicago. (They didn't have lights because when they were in the
process of buying them, WWII broke out and they gave them to the Navy so
shipyards could work all night.) But I'd rather roast in the fires of
eternal damnation than have Carl Pohlad profit by one nickel from my tax
money. The owners ruined pro baseball; they should be responsible for
fixing it. (Which they will on that cold day in Hades; it sooooo much
more fun to try to stick it to Donald Fehr.)

Culture: Better argument for public money, particularly since the dollar
figure is SO much smaller, but they should still do it on their own. Is
the Guthrie THAT much more valuable than the Jungle Theater or Jeune
Lune? What cultural experts decide who gets money and who doesn't?

Schools: I send my 10-year old to a private school (Minnehaha Academy),
and I am far from being wealthy. When I tried to get her into a
Minneapolis magnet program (the only thing appropriate for her; she
tests about 4 grade levels up in math and reading) I couldn't get her
in. When I called my Council Member, she said she couldn't do anything
since the School Board is independent. When I called a couple of School
Board members, they said they couldn't do anything because that's the
way the system is. There are all kinds of programs in the schools, but
they told my daughter to take a hike. I am willing to pay for public
schools in addition to getting my daughter the education she needs. I
just wish I felt like the money was being used effectively.
