Yo the entire Twin Cities metropolitain community has resoundingly said
that we do not want to subsidize a baseball stadium. I am a stadium
supporter myself, but hey the issue has been defeated in every possible way
for public funding so the owners need to move on and explore private means.
I mena the city already donated land for a riverfront ball park, what more
do you want?!! Personally, I think it is arrogant for them to contract
teams that won't comply with building new stadiums with public money. Of
course, we haven't seen the end of this contraction fight, they have a long
way to go to make it a reality. With the players union's contract ending
and ready to fight contraction, as well as definite congressional
intereference, I think things are going to be a bit more cumbersome than
Selig has anticipated.

You're right. It's not important. It's "importance" is all media hype.
The claim that stadiums and teams provide economic benefit was proven to
be a myth. I'm sick of paying taxes on sports stadiums. I want my taxes
going to schools.
If there is so much economic benefit to having the team in town why aren't
the affected businesses lining up to buy stock in a corporation designed
to keep them?
They are a big corporation, with monopoly control of the market. There
are solutions to their problems but the owners aren't willing to pursue
them. They just want a big corporate handout.
