Fall street sweeping has begun in SE Minneapolis, and once again, just like last year, the streets are full of leaves and cars.
The cars are NOT being ticketed OR towed. They just sit there and the city employees have to do the best they can to manuever around the illegally parked cars. Signs were posted, and are still sitting there. Betcha if one of the sweepers scrapes an illegally parked car the owner manages to notice the ding even if he didn't notice the No Parking sign. Please contact your CM and request tag and tow in your neighborhood for street cleaning. Come ON!, Paul and Paul! And again, this is just one more place that the city fails to collect from a source of easy income, which would benefit all of us. Tag 'em and rake it in. just get those streets clean, please! I'd be very interested to learn how much the city earns from tag and tow, gross and net, IF WE EVER START COLLECTING IT. I understand it's difficult in some neighborhoods to find a place to park when the streets are posted. If, however, some neighborhoods can't cope with one difficult day occasionally (street sweeping and the occasional plowing day) can you tell me why it will be easier to cope with the resulting narrow streets or one-side parking. I don't understand the logic of not moving your car for sweeping and plowing. In case there is anyone on this list who doesn't know it, if the streets are not clean and we get a nice wet snowfall (just as we got last year), it's harder for the plows to clear to the curb. If the plows can't clear snow off to the curb, the impacted snow narrows the streets and we end up with either that idiotic one side parking garbage or we end up playing dodge-em cars in 1-1/2 lane wide streets. Additionally, the leaves clog the storm sewer grates, add nutrients to the run off water than can get through, foul up the rivers--comeon, you've heard all the reasons.
