I noticed the item below on the Z&P agenda Thursday and felt I needed
to make comment. It is my understanding that the OEA grant is to
help establish Sustainability Indicators for the City. IMHO,
sustainability indicators are long range thinking... 10, 20 and 50 year
type guides and ways to measure long term sustainability of the
city.
I believe we currently have 3 or 4 city committees with strong Mayor
direction and the Library and Park Boards each with sustainability
integrated into their planning and policies or policy development.
With all these committed pieces I hope that we will keep the use of this
grant to guide us with setting these long range indicators rather than
year by year performance goals.
I guess my point here is that I am excited to see this action moving
forward and just wanted to remind us about setting the overall long term
sustainability indicators that will help us work hard so that our city
continues to be a city that is a vibrant, beautiful place to live, work
and play. This includes considerations for not only the economic factors,
but also environmental and equity (people/social) factors.
