How will the presence of a Marina near Downtown affect the locks? Will they experience more traffic, and thus add to the cost of operations and maintenance? A marina sounds like a good idea, but I hope all the ramifications of its presence will be evaluated BEFORE taxpayer dollars are spend building one. One of the cities I have lived in talked about building a marina, but then looked at all the effects it would have on other things, especially costs, and scrapped the idea. A private developer went in and built one, and it failed after a few years. While Stillwater and Hudson may appear to be benefiting from their marinas, are they really?
I have no problem with a marina, in fact I like the idea. I am just afraid that my tax dollars will be wasted on yet another boondoggle in downtown. Ron Leurquin Nokomis East REMINDERS: 1.
