Supposedly the financier (Jacobs) that's stepped forward as a "no risk/shared rewards" option for the marina is originally from the northside. I'm sure he'll see the polictical/morale wisdom in dropping another $200k or so into a full-service park in Jordan to "sell" MPLS of the marina concept. Afterall, he has the "northside" to thank for his good fortune.
I'm equally as sure of the fact that our well-tenured, kayaking, state representative from the other side of the river will see the EQUAL importance and wisdom to FINALLY providing a full-service park to a neighborhood of 4,500 children as she sees in providing future opportunities to the occasional kayaker on the good 'ole Mississippi.

Before we start building a marina, could we get Jordan Park renovated? The
kids are still getting splinters playing on the chemically treated, 20 year
old wooden playground equipment. We have a basketball court with no
baskets, a horse shoe pit that is the pits, berms that the park board built
too high to begin with and we are still waiting to have pared done for
safety purposes. To top it off, they put in some sort of iron mushroom
thingy that offers no shelter, esp since the plexy glass is gone out of it.
This is the only park in Jordan (Cottage Park is really no more than a
playground on a median in the street). To get to the nearest full service
park, kids in Jordan have to go to Farview which means crossing three major
streets. This in a neighborhood with 4500 kids under 18. Not acceptable.
For the last ten years we have been begging the park board to fix our park
and keep getting told there is no money and the equipment is not scheduled
to be replaced for ten years. Of course they said it would be ten years ten
years ago. Supposedly, the rehab date has been moved up to 2005 IF they
have any money. One park official said we should have used our NRP money on
the park like other neighborhoods did. Gee, silly us putting 98% of our NRP
dollars into housing instead. Now, the attitude seems to be that since we
didn't do that, the Park board has no responsibility for Jordan Park. I was
also told that Jordan residents weren't persistant in their efforts (read;
no political clout) .
Enough of this crap, guys. Before they start building docks for people who can afford boats, could we get some decent swings for the kids who don't even have yards to play in. Could we get a place where our community can gather without having to worry about getting rained out. Even a decent picnic table would be nice.
Seems to me there's always plenty of money for the glamour projects, but the
basics are falling apart. If parks for our children are going to take a back
seat to facilities to house the toys for rich people, this city is truely
screwed up!!! Perhaps Mr Jacobs could chip in the funds for our little park
in order to get his dock.
