Or how about we stay away from the hot button History class and talk about Math and Science. In Math and Sciences classes our students are taught basically that anything and everything we know about Math and Science was developed by the Ancient Greeks and later Europeans either omitting or dismissing the enormous contributions to math and science by the Arabs, Indians, Persians, Babylonians, Mesopotamians, Egyptians, etc. and ignoring the mathematical advances and discoveries of the Mayas (who, for example invented the 0 during the same period as the Northern Indians did).
Actually hopefully math and science classes focus more on the Math skills and Science skills rather than who or what discovered what. I also hope that Science Standards that are coming won't kowtow to the Creationists and get "equal time" for Intelligent Design Theory - along with the theory of Evolution. EdWatch/Mr Ed Co wants the Science Standards to delete any reference to the age of the Earth and the Universe. For more on this read my post on the MN Politics Discuss List:

Senator Bachmann - the person who introduced the amendment to ban gay marriage is also pushing having Creationism taught in the public schools. If we are really serious about getting more Biotech industry here in MN, then we need to have rigourous science classes. That means including theories - that are backed up by empirical data - like Evolution and the age of the Earth. Excluding information about scientific theories that conflict with the bible is not the way for this state - and Minneapolis - which would benefit from more biotech industry here.
Neither the Social Studies or Science Standards committees had hearings in Minneapolis - and I thought this was an appalling decision by Commissioner Yecke.
