People have changed consciousness in all sorts of ways, for all sorts of reasons, for several thousand years and will probably continue to do so. It's odd that they are seen as ways of numbing one's self by some people and ways of getting tuned in by others. The problem is lumping all drugs together, even though we are all old enough to know better. That khat is probably no worse than coffee, and that being exposed to second-hand smoke is no worse than hanging out at a gas station. More advanced societies would laugh at our hypocrisy, futility, and values. I just think people should be able to go and have a drink and a smoke and not worry about this. Blow off steam, whatever you want to call it. I don't have to join them.
The problem is when you can't get away from it.......in this case we can choose not to go to smoky bars......but I can't get away from cops that like to thump and a culture that chooses many forms of pollution in the name of Freedom......turn the mirror on yourself......and see where your behaviors are infringing on others.....the flora and fauna of this fine city.
