Sorry, me again...
I got me your latest issue truely _immediatly_ and promptly built it also.
Yes, it _does_ work really nicely now, even the resizing artifacts are
gone, and the splitters act on the correct column borders.
But...
I _still_ got "a couple" minor complaints.
- It is possible to add the same user selected directory to the "hearty"
field of the "Places" pane any arbitrary number of times. A test for
uniqueness might be useful here before insertion.
- At some size of the _window_, a horizontal scroll bar appears at its
bottom, unrelated to the window contents.
- Similarly, if the list pane's contents were set smaller than some size,
and the window is shrunk so it hides some of this, NO scroll bar is
shown, although this is done when the pane is wider. It seems the
appearance of a scroll bar is NOT determined by the size of the list pane
compared to the list width, but by some other value that gets
desynchronized at times.
(And once it even happened to me again that the whole list vanished on
resizing a column.)
- What is the purpose / significance of the additional characters in the
"Size" column shown in front of the values? They're mostly carets
("^"), but I found some underlines ("_") also. I couldn't find a
correlation to some file property, say type or so, as the same markings
appear for files of very different type and different markings for files
of same type (there are "_" marked files of type ".gz" as well as such
with a "^" marker, e.g.)
- Well, and as for sorting of directories: their position again isn't
kept at the head of the list if the sorting order is switched.
- And as a final minor "bemol", the positioning of the control fields
("No Lateral", "Compact" and "Show hidden") seems "somewhat arbitrary",
even somewhat obscuring the title fields of the directory and filter
lists.
Well, that's already a whole bunch again, even minor, but still meaning
quite a bit of work required to take care of.
And I still have one, if you admit: I'm not at all a fan of icons, turning
them off if ever I can. So I would be pleased if there was a setting to
turn off the icons (visual clutter) in this dialog also, if at all feasible.
So that's enough for now, another load of work, probabely.
I hope you could still enjoy this weekend.
