ok 'quality' was the wrong word here, maybe.
More appropriate would be 'complex' (using weird
combinations of musically interesting features
like mixing several measures). Game music is
mostly intended as background music which would
distract the player of the game if it were
too complex, rather than creating the right
atmosphere for the game.

Yes, obscure. :-)

Personally, I think that this (one measure for a
simple drum riff, use fixed pitch font):
00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14 15
B X . . . X . . . X . . . X . . .
S . . . . X . . X . X . . X . X .
C . . X . . . X . . . X . . . X .
H X X . X X X . X X X . X X X . X
T . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
is much clearer than:
BH16H16C16H16BSH16H16C16SH16BH16SH16C16H16BSH16H16SC16H16
(pfooh!)

Maybe. But that may be more of a problem of
MoonBlaster's features, than of the fact that MB is
a tracker style music editor.

Set a higher tempo and use 6 steps per beat.

Which also happens when you use MML, but it's not
that obvious, because the MML tries to cover that
deficit.

You cant compare that package with MB:
- MB plays on MSX-MUSIC/MSX-AUDIO
The Bit2 package uses MIDI to control an external
synth.
- the Bit2 package includes hardware with its own
timer. MB is stuck to the VDP interrupt.

It doesn't. It just makes you believe that.

Explain what you mean by "'human' phrases".
[you can_ use measures different from 4/4 in MB]

It's not 'tricks' it's just getting away with the stupide
'idee fixe' that the 16 steps in a pattern restrict you to
having 4/4 music with a 16th note resolution!

I can read music scores and I still find it very obscure.
I've made several musics with FM-BASIC's MML and finally
finding FAC SoundTracker and later MB was a _relief_!

No, it just gives you the suggestion that you can
make music without the *hardware*s limitations.

Even more cumbersome than using a tracker IMHO
