But it's not needed to guarantee compatibility. Everything works without this.

It does. The BIOS space used for the cassette routines is used for PCM 
routines in the TR, IIRC.

No, the amount of memory a MSX game needs should always be mentioned on the 
cover of the package. MSX standard only defines 8kB of RAM, IIRC, as a 
minimum. This is a free parameter of the manufacturer. Hence the obligation of 
the software makers to mention the amount of RAM the product needs.
