No. Once the MSX2 standard said the V9938 was the video processor, the Lightpen support was there. In the MSX2+ they just "took off" the support. Ok, the BIOS never supported Lightpen, but the support was in the processor. I don't think it was a programming problem. They just change the standard as the wanted to.
