CFG (http://freedesktop.org/Main/CFG) looks cool, but it seems to need
Perl.

I shudder every time I have to do something in GConf. I suppose it
would be better if EVERY app has a place change EVERY setting in uses
from GConf. It's a pain to change what browser evolution uses when you
aren't running Gnome since evolution doesn't have a setting for it. It
just uses the global one.

Also, more and more I'm keeping certain config files synced on several
different machines. This is easy to do when I have separate conf files,
but not so easy with GConf.
