That was hilarious. I have seen that EEVblog review guy before, and he is quite eccentric. But he is also a good reviewer, but in the PicKit 3 review I think he got a little carried away^^

So seriously, I think I am going to go for the PicKit 3. Right now, I am actually supposed to burn a PIC, but my lovely Velleman board keeps telling me "No Device ID found." Anyone got a clue? It is the K8048, see here: http://www.velleman.eu/distributor/products/view/?country=be&lang=en&id=350903

I am programming the PIC with master clear disabled, as well as internal 4MHz RC oscillator enabled. Could this be the reason? The Velleman board has a 3-state-switch from RUN - OFF - PROG. When in OFF position, all is well. When in RUN position, all is well, the program runs (i.e. the LEDs on board (RB0:5) flash the way they are supposed to). Now: switch position on PROG, the program still runs(!). What the heck?! When I enable master clear this does not happen. But all PICs that I have programmed once with this master clear disabled and then placed on that board are reluctant to get programmed again. PICs that I programmed with external oscillator and master clear enabled work just fine and can be burned again and again. It seems almost as if the master clear disable + internal oscillator makes it a lot harder to burn these PICs.

Any ideas? I am quite confused.

The PicKit 3 is an excellent programmer.

I was put off by the review here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjfIS65mwn8\

But I was amused by the response of Microchip at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YUvlrVlNao
