Its a consequence of the PC experience Chris - quote from this months
PC PLUS review of Windows Utilities programs:
"Our normal practice is to format the hard drive of all Windows
machines every two or three months and re-install it to keep them
running smoothly."

To be fair some poorly written programs can leave their configurations
corrupt after a crash, and starting from scratch may sometimes be
simpler than finding and fixing the problem. I've even had this with
a couple of Amiga programs though not with any of the Netconnect ones
of course;)
