Well, three companies have done well due to:
a) Weird Science - had the exclusive UK rights to the Aminet series, just
when they were peaking in popularity. For instance, the Aminet CD's used to
sell around 10,000-20,000 copies each month (exact number is a secret), but
this has dropped significantly recently.
b) Epic product all sorts of (crappy) shareware/shovelware CD's, but people
stupidbly bought them! ie. their Spectrum, C64 and similar CD's sold in the
1000's.
c) Eyetech did well from the A1200 tower market as they had the money to
invest into it (they used to, and still do, produce the bar code tracking
system for parcels), which most companies didn't.
Other than that, companies like White Knight are around as they offer
specialised solutions to the MOD and others, whilst Blittersoft has a
profitable Mac range of products, for example.
