Talking about software, Amiga are pretty aware that software will play a key
role in whether the NG Amiga will succeed or not. Jim Von Holle's primary
role is to talk to his software contacts and try and encourage them to port
some of the programs, especially games.
As the NG Amiga will support industry standards such as 'OpenGL' and QNX
is Linux compatible (afaik), porting games such as Quake III should be
relatively easy.
Games are essential for the initial NG Amiga. As it will be aimed at home
use (home networking, appliances etc), rather than the business desktop,
games and productivity are the key. Therefore Amiga could do well even
paying for games to be ported and new games to be developed for the new
machine, in a similar way to the console market.
As for backwards compatibility, if this Amiga is as fast as Amiga claim it
will be, running old/current Amiga software, under UAE (which now has AGA
support and is pretty cool btw), should be as fast or maybe a little faster
than an 060.
Emulating a PC/Mac would also be possible, and rather fast too :)
Chris.
