Posted on behlaf of people with an opion but not on the list,
[=> He also said a couple of days ago that MicroDOT-II on the PC
[=> WOULDN'T be an emailer/newsgroup thing, but a program that
[=> does "phone" stuff like faxes and shit?
[=>
[=> If that's true, then Active haven't got a HOPE of
[=> making much money in the PC market at all. When you
[=> buy a modem, you get "telephoney" (fax, etc) PC software
[=> which IS pretty good. Everywhere you look, there's
[=> phone-type software littered all about the place.
EXACTLY MY POINT!..
If These people had more than one brain cell they would direct
thier business at an area that has prospects..... Like perhaps
games or even just NON, comms packages.. The amount of businesses
that buy DTP/Office related packages on the PC is pretty high.
Thats what the amiga needs, businesses using the machine.
Sorry for being blunt, but sometimes it really makes me wonder
what these people have between thier ears!... :)
[=> Hell, when I bought my modem from Active (for the Amiga),
[=> I got some PC software with it! SuperVoice it was called,
[=> among other stuff..
And me, Supervoice is pretty much standard with all
modems. It has NetScape, Voice, Fax, Email, Dialer..
EVERYTHING!.. and it`s FREE!.
[=> I would STRONGLY suggest that Active make the PC
[=> version of MicroDOT-II an emailer and newsgroup
[=> program, as the PC is lacking somewhat in that
[=> area. Sure, there's TONS of email/NG software
[=> available with SHITLOADS of features that
[=> people wouldn't use, but they are not up to
[=> the quality standard of YAM (or even MicroDOT-II).
I still dont think many people will pay for this. Not on the PC
when alternative software is FREE and OK..
[=> This could possibly make or break Active.
Yup... I still think they should think about the TYPE of
software they release as commercial.
I wouldn`t like to see Active go down, or any other amiga
company, but a dead company is as much use to us as a PC
company ;) And Visa Versa.
Lets face it, he has a point about the amiga market getting worse,
and, (not that I know a lot about the profit side of things here)
but if you want to stay afloat in the Amiga Market, you need a
miricle :)
[=>
[=> Here's a couple of little answers to the
[=> following questions from Chris Wiles:
[=>
[=>
[=>> I've never known a market so quiet/dead/finished. The last 2-3 months
[=>> are crippling us, and that is not a joke. For instance, May was the
[=>> quietest month we've had since October 1996. Sales were 50% (!) lower
[=>> than the average month.
[=>
[=> Modems and software are unlike disposable products (toiletories (sp?),
[=> foodstuffs, etc) in a sense as when you've bought your modem/software,
[=> its' not going to run out or get used up. Obvious yes, but the Amiga
[=> market is small and the online market is even smaller. There's only
[=> so many people that can buy a modem. After that, you'll only get
[=> a sprinkle of orders as the offline customers get online.
SPOT ON!... Again... A genre change?
[=> So the market isn't really finished - just full of modems/software.
No but seriously... Games... The amiga needs more of them? Dont you
agree?
[=>
[=>> a) from 18th May until 17th of June we did not sell one (standalone)
[=>> copy of STFax!
[=>
[=> Hardly anyone I know uses fax software or software to dial the
[=> phone (well, modem). Fax software sucks.
STFax`s equivilents (SuperVoice and QFax) are both FREE! Ok so they
arnt quite as good, but both do the job!
[=>> b) from early May until today, we've only sold 9 copies of (standalone)
[=>> NetConnect
[=>
[=> Genesis is a pain and so is MicroDOT-II. Miami rules and
[=> so does YAM. YAM = free.
Yup, I agree.. Though Genesis is cool. just a bitch to configure.
[=>> c) in the entire month of May, we sold only 20 modem packs
[=>
[=> Wahey! ~18 more Amiga users online!
[=>> 3. Who the hell said we are 'giving up' or 'stopped' developing Amiga
[=>> software or even slowed down?
[=>
[=> Your attitude seems to suggest it, Bovril.
Humm, No comment :)
[=>
[=>> If anything, this really annoys me and makes me more determined not
[=>> to work on new software products for the (small and really dead) Amiga
[=>> market.
[=>
[=> "small and really dead"
[=>
[=> Don't think saying that helped.
Ahahahahaha, this is fun reading this :)
[=>> It's amazing. If any PC software development company decided to produce
[=>> some software for the Amiga market, people would be rejoicing and
[=>> saying 'wow wow!'.
[=>
[=> It's another developer. Obvious really.
[=>
[=>> If a small (almost dead) Amiga company decides to try and save itself,
[=>> by producing a title that perhaps might sell more than 10 copies a
[=>> month, Amiga users go ballistic.
[=>
[=> Well that's Amiga users for you. Also using the word "dead" quite a bit
[=> doesn't help, I don't think.
If it was dead, he wouldn`t have sold ANYTHING of ANYTHING!.
[=> "The Amiga market is dead, so we're off to do some PC stuff"
Yeah, lets all adopt Chris`s attitude and give up now.
Rob,
