You still haven't given a tiny hint of why an advanced user has greater
needs than us plebs, as Mark puts it.

Thanks for those suggestions. During searches, I have uncovered a huge swag
of Unix related material. I think perhaps the Unix origin of so much
Internet software and systems is in itself a reason to install Linux of
BSD.
