Hell, I'm being swept away in the NC3 deluge and I haven't even got NC2 to
work properly yet!
My installation from the CD was by the installer, but when I downloaded the
uprades to 2.3, and used the installers one at a time, in the correct order,
it all came to bits.
ContactManager is the worst offender and I have had to go back to CM V1.0.
It's the only one that doesn't give an instant crash--except for V1.3. V1.3
simply gave a sales pitch for V1.6 (IIRC) Is the vapor_update.library no
more than a sales pitch bacteria? I can't use 1.6 with the NC2 keyfile
anyway--it requires it's own.
I backed up NetConnect2 dir before I started any updating, so it was simple to
repeat the process and the result was exactly the same.
I really do want to use CM, because it's an excellent concept. I was a bit
disappointed that when I tried to use the email part, it asked for Volume
THOR: to be inserted and there was no way of changing that in the prefs, and
no mention of it in the docs. It took only a minute to find out how to fix
that, but most users I know would simply go blank at the idea of re-writing
or modifying a rexx script.
Any ideas on why I can't get CM higher that V1.0 to work? Each time I've
tried the others, I have run Snoopdos and it has shown that I definitely had the
appropriate
libraries installed.
I will most likely upgrade to NC3, but not until I have got NC2 working
properly.
_Supplementary question:_
I now cannot exit Voyager, IBrowse or STRicq without a total feeze which
releases after about fifteen seconds. After the release, there is only one
screen colour, and having orange text on an orange field and orange icons on
an orange background does little to enhance the usability of the machine.
I don't know what I did that started this, but I wonder if updating some MUI .mcc
file started it. I make a bit of effort to always have the latest versions.
Unfortunately, I have been lax about keeping previous versions just in case.
I have tried every combination of MUI's Save/Remember/Forget
on exit and Smart/Simple redraw and that made no
difference. SnoopDos reports about 100 writes to RAM at the time it happens.
Failing a solution to this infuriating problem, is anyone able to recommend
a good hair-restorer?
