On 28-Dec-99, Andrew Bruno spewed forth the following...

>I was waiting for MORE than a year to get NC2 and when I did it took a LOT

I thought NC2 was a BIG improvement on NC1, and to the best of my
knowledge it was relatively easy to set up. Any problems I had with
the software within could be directed to this or the associated Vapor
list and I would receive a solution relatively quickly.

>I know this is going to get me flamed but I am allowed my opinion.

Postings to work - mailing with MD-II? How much can it take?

>I am in Australia and it would seem the internet is not that good here
that
>I still don't have NC3. How long has it been out now?

Since mid October 1999.

>Now, before you say, "Buy it from the people in England." I was trying

If your emails to these companies were as confrontational as this one,
I'm not that surprised. Find a company that will ship overseas, and
email them, fax them, phone them.

>The people who make Netconnect though are doing a good job to tick me off
>and not support their product.

Oh, there's support, you just have to know how to use it. Just detail
your problem and send it to the right place - there's bound to be
someone around who can answer your query.

>I was getting flack big time when I was trying to get my problems
resolved;
>and I can honestly say that they were not really solved. I was given
>"alternatives" to "work around" the problem.

You were getting the flack because of your general attitude.

>I have NOT got Netconnect 3 and am waiting for the importer to be able to
>get it.

When NC3 was released, it was available from Active Technologies at
an upgrade price, and they offered worldwide shipping.

>I don't use half the programs on the CD as either they don't work and I
>have
>just given up on them or I don't like them.

They all work fine, there must simply be some incompatabilites between
them and your system.

>When service packs are sent out, they should do a propper job of fixing
the
>problem. Not a half hearted effort.

The three service packs that were released updated the NC2 programs
to the versions that were currently available. Some were made
available in an alpha or beta stage, before registered Vapor users
were able to use them, and these releases always held the point that
they were betas, and could cause problems. Most of the time they
didn't though.

>The problems with keys and libraries and the like were a headache for
>people
>with version 2.1 and 2.2.

No, it was simple. If you were an NC2 user, you waited for an official
NetConnect release of the software, instead of running off to
download every single Vapor release and then wondering why it said
that you weren't registered. Thankfully, this is no longer the case
with the advent of NC3.

>I know that what I am suggesting would be a lot of work and is NOT easy.
>But hey, it would keep your customers happy.

But what exactly ARE you suggesting? Don't release the software
until EVERY bug is eliminated? Personally I'd rather have the
software and live with what few limitations it has, rather than sit
around and wait for some godlike program that will solve all of my
connectivity problems.

>Isn't that a good idea? Happy customers? I know it is a novel idea, but
>it
>just may work.

There are plenty of happy customers - the ones who are grateful to
be able to use such well written software. Sure, there are bugs at
times, but it they're reported, then they're addressed by the authors,
and corrected at a later date.

>Meanwhile I sit here with Version 2.2 and watch the whole thing happen
>again
>what happened to me a year ago.

2.3 is available now.

>Please - everyone! Lets all work together. Lets try to keep the Amiga
>and
>Netconnect a viable option.

>DO NOT let the Amiga die because of slack support.

There isn't a lack of support, it's just how you use it.

>And I hope that before the new year I will be using NC3.

Hmmm - something tells me you'll still be waiting. Not much time left!

Vlad the Impailer quotes? What a nice way to round off such a
pleasant email ;o)
