If you're worried, you could stand the 4000 on >end while you copy the files. I've heard of it, although never experienced it. Although apparently it doesn't cause permanent damage (obviously, since HDs are usually designed to be mounted either way), it can cause read errors or can apparently prevent reading of the disk altogether. I suppose it sort of makes sense when you consider what precise devices they are. But I can't see that it would hurt to at least *try*.
