Haven't attempted to tinker with these yet, but watch this space I may get
bored someday :-)

Have you tried increasing the serial device buffer size, I use 8n1 device
version 37.39 set at 115200 baud rate Input buffer = 262144, Output buffer = 65536 
this is using the Amiga internal serial port, with an enhanced port you could probably 
change these till you find the optimum
sizes. Hope this is of some use.
