The only choices are 19200, 38400, 57600, or 115200. AFAIK no other
intermediate values will work, even if they can be set in youur software.
(9600 will work too, but if you had to down to that you really would be in
trouble.)
Gibberish on screen is usually a speed issue--not too much speed, but
misunderstood speed.
