So what? Does scsi.device (unless you have WB3.5)? The device is in
RAM. I think it's loaded from the GVPio driver in SYS:Expansion. Read
that file in a text reader (NEXT is best--it never complains about
binary files.) BTW, don't be alarmed if you look in a program like
Scout and it says you have an Impact Series II HC+8. I don't know why
it says that, but lots of GVP boards appear as that when they are not.

This is from my genesis.config:
Sana2ConfigText sername gvpser.device\nserunit
It's the only way it's ever been. If you set device as gvpserial.device
in Genesis prefs and put the right unit number it will work without
that awful redirection stuff.

Not much in the way of docs there. If you used the installer, there's
not much more you can do, except configure your modem programs to use
it..

It defaults to 1 bit. I'm amazed that GVP could have overlooked that.
The patch came from someone else later.

A little speed and less cpu usage I think. If you have a fast cpu and
not too much running you may see no difference at all, but it will
still give your system some breathing space. Get the patch and read
the docs.

Yes, there are utilities for that, but I have never tried any. Search
Aminet for mouse wheel.

There are normally one parallel, two serial and one MIDI. The MIDUcan
be configured as serial of MIDI I think. I've never had a manual for
it.

Hang on, I'll crawl in the back and have a look.
Dunno about positions because this one is in a tower case, but unit 0 is
on the board beside the parallel port. The other two are on a seperate
back plate and linked by ribbon cables. I think that seperate plate
can go either side of the board, so talking about left and right
could confuse the issue.
I'll really have to find a manual because I've taken my secondary back
plate out and I can't be sure I will remember how it connects when I
get around to installing it without using a Zorro position. Maybe I
labelled it . .
If you are getting it to work by redirecting serial.device to gvp unit
1, then that is the one you are using. It makes no difference, as long
as you tell Genesis and anything else it's Unit 1. One minor advantage
of using Unit 0 is that most programs default to that.
