If you don't use any init string, you just type atm0. If you use any init
string, after it put

^matm0

As previously written by me (and appropriately corrected by Walter) ^m must
be present between any at commands issued as such, i.e., if you give multiple at
commands on any init string, you must separate them by the ^M symbol,
which is translated as a carriage return to the modem. So, suppose you have
an init string such as

at^f

you now should have

at^f^matm0

If there's no init string, you should only put atm0.
