Subject: USR Courier HST 14.4 Revisited
Hi, folks --
Perhaps some of you remember when, a few months ago, I spoke
about my use of a USR Courier HST 14.4 external modem with an
IBM XT. I finally was able to configure a stable connect string
with Net-Tamer, but unlike the potential of the modem, I've only
been able to connect at 2400bps, which should go up to 9600.
Here's what I've done: the COM1 port (IRQ4) is set at 96,n,8,1-
under PC DOS 3.3 when booting (with autoexec.bat); Net-Tamer is
set at 9600, COM1, IRQ4, and uses the following string --
AT&FB0X7&C1&D2&M4&H1&R2&K3&B1&S1 S10=15
I always get the "ARQ/2400" message when logging on to my ISP,
although I have a very fine connection with other modems/computers
on this same phone line.
Recently, I found a small program that could run my ports/modem
through diagnostics and save the information to a file. For this
reason,I'm revisiting you folks to show you the results of that test
to determine if it offers any of you further clues about how I
could obtain a faster connection (up to 9600bps), or if there's
some other problem with the modem.
I've added the test file, as follows:

An OUT: is us talking to the FaxModem.
An IN: is the FaxModem answering us.
OUT means OUT to your FaxModem. That is the way FaxMail for Windows
talks to your FaxModem.
IN means IN from your FaxModem. That is the way your FaxModem
talks to FaxMail for Windows .
Example:
Action: Command: Comment:
OUT: AT+FCLASS=? }FaxMail for Windows to FaxModem; What Class are you?
IN: 0,1,2,2.0 }FaxModem to FaxMail for Windows; I am Class 0 (Data,BBS),
}Class 1 Fax, Class 2 Fax, and Class 2.0 Fax.
IN: OK }Means, YES, your FaxModem supports said function.
IN: ERROR }Means, NO, your FaxModem does not supports said function.

**** FaxModem class support interrogation results ****
The next "OUT" was us asking the modem what class or classes it supports,
and the following "IN" was the modem responding. The modem should have
reply with all the classes it supports. Each supported class is
separated by a ,
Example:
Example: Action: Command: Comment:

Example: IN: 0,1,2,2.0 }Modem to us...I am Class 0 (Data,BBS),
