I had recently asked a designer friend of mine who is not using FOSS tools in his day to day activities, even when he has good command over FOSS tools. This is his reply, quoted as is
<quote> "I receive closed format inputs from clients and have to format closed format outputs to my vendors so working on open source will put extra burden on me in way of conversions" </quote> This is a major problem specially with print. The printer will accept only cdr files, which is a closed format. If you choose JPG the quality will be bad., if you send him EPS 90% of printers do not know what settings to use for EPS, hence the quality still suffers. In internet media, SVG+JS can replace lot of flash related work but IE will not render SVG properly. Some XYZ codec wont work n FOSS platform because of licensing hassle. Anyone has solution/suggestion to these hassles of the codecs/formats etc. in design/graphics industry ? Or is this industry still living in 1800's ? regards Vivek -- The hidden harmony is better than the obvious!! _______________________________________________ network mailing list [email protected] http://lists.fosscom.in/listinfo.cgi/network-fosscom.in
