As long as they're destinguished on frame boundaries in some way, you
don't really need any encapsulation at all.  That's similar to the
interface that SLIP used.

Yep.  If it really is just bare IPv4 frames, then GLDv3 will probably
be a bit of a challenge.  I don't think that "faking" Ethernet framing
is a great solution, but it's actually what the current sppp does with
a hand-crafted DLPI driver.
