Some feedback after I got good advice a week ago: To implement basic gldv3 driver functionality is *really* easy, this is cool. It almost feels like "just fill out the application form mac_register_t and pick up your driver at the service desk". OK, there's still something left as an exercise to the developer, but so much is "just there".
