Yes, I think that's the best solution, and something like that is eventually coming in GLDv3. For now, if I were dealing with an interface like this, I'd be pretty well tempted to stick with plain old DLPIv2 and STREAMS -- not even GLD. It's not all _that_ hard to code to, and writing it that way means that it'll work on pretty much any version of Solaris ever released.
