Your program compiles and runs fine on my 10.1 system, which has gcc 3.4.1.
So I would guess that your gcc installation is somehow screwed up.

Try using "urpmi gcc" to make sure you have the correct gcc package
installed. If I remember right, you installed gcc by downloading a
package, and installing it. Was this a .rpm file that you
downloaded, or did you get some other format? You really should use
rpm and urpmi to manage the packages on your system. It helps make
sure the packages are compatible with your system.

I did install an .rpm file, yes. I will now try what you suggest. If
that does not work, I will look for version 3.4.1 to install that instead.
