Margot, Joe, and any other XFCE 4.4rc1 users.
Do you run it with KDE or Gnome also installed?
I have run it with a Gnome installation and it works perfectly. I
have tried it with KDE and all my problems have come back. Trying
to sort them, has completely messed up both KDE and XFCE. So I
was just wondering what others did.
Thanks for any information.

KDE is installed here, just in case my sister has an emergency &
needs help - I haven't converted her to Xfce yet!
I can't actually remember when I last logged in to a KDE session,
but having it lurking in the background doesn't seem to have upset
my Xfce at all.
Thanks Margot.
Something peculiar is happening here!
With KDE installed, I got the extra - non working - icons on the XFCE
desktop, that I mentioned in my original posting (second Home, second
Wastebin, etc). I deleted them, only to find they were no longer on
the KDE desktop. So I got them back on the KDE desktop and added a
couple more. They were *all* back on the XFCE desktop again. :-(
My latest idea is to do a Mandriva installation with, perhaps, just
the lean IceWM desktop, This has no icons on the desktop, but will
have installed the basic packages. Then install XFCE.
Keith,
If your Xfce has desktop icons, there is something wrong with it -
icons should be in the panel, and in either the taskbar or iconbox,
whichever you use. There shouldn't be any icons on the desktop at
all - see http://www.xfce.org/index.php?page=screenshots&lang=en for
screenshots of how an Xfce desktop should look!
My Xfce desktop acquired icons once - the cure was to rename the
/home/margot/.cache file to .cacheold - a new .cache file will be
created automatically.
