Thank you very much for your help and the information.

I must admit that a desktop looks nice and clean with out any icons, 
but I haven't decided what I am going to do about them yet. Better to 
get to know Xfce first, then I can customise it later.

I would appreciate it if you can tell me where the config. file is. I 
have looked and can't find it.
