Did it have the -config option, or not?

Are the files all identical? If not, post the ones from /etc/X11/xdm
that are different. Add the "-config /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config" to
/etc/ttys if it's not already there, right after the -nodaemon. And
don't change anything in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/, we want to keep that copy
for reference. The -config option will force xdm to use the one in
/etc/X11. All the changes will be under /etc.
