Thanks David, I should have specified that I have tried all combinations of Vertical and Horizontal frequencies available in the Custom portion of the setup. I have also entered these values from my monitors manual, into the config file in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config with the same results.
Another possibly interesting point is that the file X which is a sym link to the Xserver is pointing to /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA for some configurations but points to Xwrapper for others, but giving the same results for each. I always get the same results. The Xconfigurator utility says that there's a problem. When I do startx I get the server to start and I get a screen with some window elements in it and I am able to use some mouse functions, although rather blind as the display is not what it should me. When I abandon the xserver with the Ctrl + ALt + Backspace method I get a scree of information about the aborted session. Is there an error file that catches this output, or is there a way to pipe this information to a file?
