Thanks. I'm going to see if upgrading to XFree86-4.0.2 will do the trick. 
There's talk about the 6.0 kernel perhaps not supporting some 3D cards, 
although my SiS card is "suposed" to be supported. If the upgrade to X-4, 
and perhaps a kernel upgrade won't do it I'll try another distro.
