Sounds like you're having the same problem as me, but my problem lies with
my Leatek G-Force 2. I have to install AGPGART support into the kernel to
get my card to work properly. Even under Win 98.
But that's not the issue here. Have you tried one of the other XFree86
Mailing lists? Like the experts one? They most likely will be able to tell
you how to disable screen probing all together, and just have it run from
whatever modelines you specify. NOT the ones that it thinks are correct. And
by the way, have you considerd that your graphics chip is even just a
little, just a bit different to what the video drivers expect? They only
have to be one revision differend to behave 'differently', simply because
linux, as you would know, is VERY specific in what it's looking for.
