That's not possible.  All modes, larger than the specified virtual
resolution, must be rejected.  This is done in the core binary, and I very
much doubt a driver would ever disable that behaviour.

What XF86Config does /var/log/XFree86.0.log say it's using?  That's the
one you should be modifying.
