Here is what the Clymer Service manual says.
A drive chain wear lable is mounted on the left side of the swing arm.
Perform the following to determine chain wear:
1. Adjust the drive chain as described in this chapter.
2. If any part of the red zone on the lable aligns with the arow mark
on the chain adjuster, and the chain free play is correct, the drive
chain is excessivly worn and must be replaced.

BTW I found the most recent versions of the Honda Service manuals for
my bike @ www.timtaylor.net if you go there click on Scooters on the
left side, then Manuals on the top of the page. About two weeks ago he
also had the Clymers but I guess they had him take it down, BTW he has
the shop manuals for the older bikes as well.
