Gee, are cables for that still available ? I haven't checked
in a long time. Scuffing on the jackets is not a problem. There is a really
neat method used by the English to lube cables. I can write it out if you
want to know.

hello group....and happy new year to all of you...

just wanted to update you on my carb cleaning
project...almost
finished and ready to reinstall...need to get them in before
mlk day
(jan.18) because i go back to being a full time student on
the
                nineteenth...so with that said...

as of today I have them set out in an upright position with
a fuel
supply, checking for leaks...as suggested by Dennis....

internally, i have done all the necessary cleaning,
unclogging and
deglazing and they are looking pretty sparkly and shiny...on
the
                inside....

the external housing is a different matter though...there
are a lot of
little crooks and crevices that I just can't get to to
degrime....I am
planning on using compressed air, engine degreaser,
pressurized water,
and wd-40 to try to take care of the external
cleaning...HOWEVER...

I read somewhere on the web, that soaking the carbs in
boiling lemon
water for about 20 minutes would externally clean them right
                up....so...what do y'all think....would y'all recommend this
method or
not....would/could anything get damaged by this method?

second, I was setting the carb assembly upright to check for
leaks and
kinda noticed that the throttle cables are a bit on the worn
side...looks like they're the originals from back in
1984...so should/
can I go ahead and replace them or just give them a good
cable
                cleaning/lubricating?

any thoughts or advice would be greatly
appreciated....thanks guys!
