1. It's easy enough to remove the sending unit. After a while they become inaccurate. While you have the tank off it might be a good time to plug it in, and see if the fuel gauge corresponds with it. You may have to bend the arm a little bit to "tune" it. Just make sure it'll still operate inside the tank.
2. Any autoparts store should have some cleaner for it. I stopped by the hardware store and bought 3 rubber stoppers the right sizes for the openings. I screwed a hook into each one thought so I could pull it back out again. Fill it full of cleaner, stop it up, and shake the hell out of it. 3. The plastic tube is actually the reserve tank. When the petcock is switched to "On" it sips from the top of that tube. When you switch to "reserve" it opens up the bottom and sips all of the sludge from the bottom of the tank. There should still be a plastic screen inside the tank. Maybe a centimeter in diameter and just longer than that plastic tube. If you shine a light in the opening the petcock came out of you should see it. Mine looked like a brown plastic gasket just inside the opening until I shined the light inside. I definitely suggest checking this. Mine was cracked and ripped and wasn't screening anything. Others have found there's blocked up and restricting flow. -Kyle On Sat, Jun 26, 2010 at 9:03 AM, Bassam Khalil <[email protected]>wrote: > I have taken the petcock of and empties the gas and had a couple of > questions I was hoping could be answered. > > 1. should I remove the electronics on the tank for the fuel gauge? and if > so > is there anything I need to know to on how to remove? > 2.
