*starting a new thread for this one*

Kurt's little mishap reminds me of two genius things that I've done working on
stuff - I'll share them to *hopefully* make the rest of you feel smarter for
having not done the same.

I had the back tire off the bike and needed to skooch it up a little in the
garage for some reason or another. It was resting on the center stand and front
tire, and had the rear half of the bike down to the frame. I grabbed the frame
stubs, lifted up so the bike was on the front tire, and started walking it up.
The first thing that I noticed was that the bike was really heavy. The second
thing I noticed was that where I grabbed the bike was really uncomfortable on
my hands.

The third thing I noticed was the center stand snapping closed...

...

Luckly, someone was nearby (my wife I think) to come over and put the center
stand back down so I didn't have to set the bike down on the exhaust (and
dropping it in the process).

Another time...

I was doing an oil change on a friend's car. The floor jack that I was using
only had one section of the handle in it at the time, so it was only about 18
inches instead of 36. When I went to lower it back down, the handle had stood
straight up, right under the front bumper of the car. I decided that it would
be the best option to twist the handle and push it down out of the way in one
swift motion... It didn't work that way.

I opened the valve and the car made a hand sandwich between the plastic bumper
and the end of the jack handle. It happened really fast, but the plastic bumper
gave way a little, and the jack rolled back and let my hand go free. No
hospital needed! yay!

Anyone else have a good story?
