Ouch. Boy, when you get into a project, it's con musto gusto! I'd have been whinin' like a little girl over the injury and probly quit for the day.
Just happened to think of sumpthin' that might help prevent a recurrence. Was at Wally World today and picked a pair of cheap plastic wheel chocks. I plan to put them to a kinda unique use (one front and rear on the rear wheel to keep the wheel and swingarm from dropping to the ground when I remove both upper shock mount bolts at the same time), but they could also be used to trap the front wheel to keep the bike from squirming around on the center stand when you have the back wheel off. I'm taking the rear cowls off both my bikes and swapping them, and I don't want to spend a lotta time muscling the shocks/swingarm/rear wheel assembly back up to line up the bolt holes when I replace them. Could do the same with a couple bricks or two-bys, but I was there in the automotive aisle when the light bulb went off, and they were only 5 bucks, so what the hey.
