If you haven't invested in an impact driver now is the time, usually where 
screws are used they are dissimilar metal and get frozen, plus Japanese screws 
seem to be made of lead, just look at them and they strip. Try slotting with a 
dremel and use an impact driver to break them free.

I looked to do that and there isn't even room for a bit. I'll let it soak
with some PB Blaster and maybe try some needle-nose pliers on the screw
head. If that doesn't work I'll take a stab at a dremel cutting wheel I
guess.
