Mustapha, I'm with you on this. Mine is an 82 650 Nighthawk. If I'm using the bike as a commuter, it starts immediately first thing every morning and coming home in the evening. I'm OK if I stop for gas right away but if I drive for over 30 minutes and then stop, I can almost guarantee a problem starting.
Everything lights up when I turn the key to the run position but it dims like a dead battery and will not turn over when I hit the starter. No power. If I wait 30' to an hour it usually will start, but barely, like the battery has just enough power to start. If I can wait overnight, I can guarantee it will start immediately. Last night on my ride home I had to stop at Sears, coming out no chance. The parking lot has a good slope but it took 3 tries walking the bike up and then popping the clutch in 2nd riding the slope to get it to start. Once started it was fine the rest of the way home. When I got home I turned it off, gave it a couple minutes and tried starting it. It was dead. This morning it started as well as it did back 32 years ago. The battery is 2 years old and I have a new one I will put in over the weekend but I know the new battery is masking whatever my problem is. I would dearly love an explanation as to what is happening. Thanks to all and have a great holiday.
