Sure seems to me the only possible cause is air. More air brings in more fuel. Something is sticking open and that tells me either the grip, cable, or butterfly is sticking or it is getting air from a leak in the intake (much less likely). If it ever idles properly, your problem is NOT an idle adjustment. What a nasty persistent problem you have there! Best of luck, but follow the air.
